Assistant Teacher – After School Program
Start Date: Immediately • Compensation: $20-$24/hr

RISE serves to close the education and opportunity gaps that exist between East Palo Alto and its neighboring communities. By building close community and family connections, RISE supports the whole family from a child’s birth throughout their entire education.
Position Summary
Our after-school assistant teacher joins our longest-running and most established program, RISE After-School. Working with elementary students in grades 1-5, individually or in small groups, the after school assistant teacher is an important educator and mentor to our students who return to RISE year after year. If you are looking for meaningful interaction with students, true relationship-building, and exciting academic and social-emotional programming, this position is for you!
Days/Hours (number of days can flexible)
This is a school year position that runs from August - May annually. Opportunities for some summer hours may be available if desired.
Monday / Tuesday / Thursday: 3:00pm - 6:30pm
Wednesday: 2:00pm - 6:30pm
Duties & Responsibilities
Support with classroom material set-up and snack preparation for the day;
Provide academic and homework support for students in small groups and 1:1;
Assist with afternoon enrichment activities such as sports, arts & crafts, etc;
Supervise students during free choice and play;
Weekly check-ins with other team members;
Clear and professional communication with parents and other staff.
Basic Qualifications
Passionate about making a difference in the lives of children;
Ability to provide academic support in reading, writing, and math through grade 5;
Team player, reliable, creative problem-solver with excellent interpersonal skills;
Interest in the field of education and commitment to social justice.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in education;
Speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish;
Connection to the East Palo Alto community.

Compensation
This is an hourly position of $20 to $24 per hour, depending on experience and education.
